Protocol Win – A $0 Miracle Amidst Political Collapse

Pain & Protocol

The Absurdity of the Personal Miracle and the Political Chaos

I’ve got two pieces of unbelievable news. Honestly, I want to scream because it feels completely undeserved. It’s the kind of undeserved miracle the current political regime seems determined to grant only to those who already don’t need help.

First, the looming PA Reset is still required, but the fight just got much easier! My entire Protocol—Emgality and Ubrelvy—is thankfully listed on my new insurance plan’s formulary (Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield). I still have to go through the Prior Authorization process to re-prove my 26-year-old chronic pain condition to a new Gatekeeper on January 1st. Still, since the meds are on the list, the chance of an outright, arbitrary denial has dropped significantly. The massive six-figure ransom will likely remain neutralized once that paperwork clears.

Second, my personal financial situation is miraculously improving. For heaven’s sake, we’re heading into week five of a shutdown because Congress can’t even manage to get the government back open. Meanwhile, my company flawlessly executed a plan that reduced my combined premiums for health/prescription, dental, and vision by nearly $50 per paycheck. I’m even increasing my Health Savings Account (HSA) contribution to $3,500, which covers the total out-of-pocket maximum for all three insurances, and I’m still saving money.

Let’s look at the incredible math: I’ll likely hit my annual deductible of $1,800 in the first weeks of January, based on the full cost of Emgality and Ubrelvy alone. After that, the company pays 90% of everything until I hit the new, reduced out-of-pocket maximum of $2,500. Financially, this is a miracle. It secures my Protocol and gives me much-needed breathing room.

This should be a moment of pure, unadulterated relief. But it isn’t. The joy is instantly choked by the terrifying knowledge of why I have this safety net.

My Premium Drop is a National Tragedy

My financial relief is a direct, infuriating result of working for a large corporation. The system is rigged to reward size, and that size is the only thing that secures my health stability.

Let me just pause here to be clear: I genuinely love my company. I work as a Subcontract Administrator for a DoD contractor. My day-to-day supports the small businesses of America—the entrepreneurs, the builders, and the innovators running operations with 1 to 100 employees. They are my clients and my colleagues. Many of my subcontractors tell me that they value working with us because of our inclusive culture. We actively strive to help small businesses not just survive, but thrive. They are my daily inspiration, proving that drive can succeed even in the face of constant political BS.

That’s exactly why the devastation hits me so hard.

My company secures my stability. Yet, the very entrepreneurs who inspire me, the backbone of American innovation, are being politically assassinated. They face extortionate premium hikes of 11 to 15 percent this year. This isn’t a cost of doing business. It is a small business extortion tax engineered by legislators who prioritize corporate donors over job creation. They are fighting to survive, but this mandated greed is breaking their backs—a catastrophic, unconscionable choice delivered directly by the broken D.C. machine.

Rigged Scale, Ruined Ambition

What absolutely devastates and frustrates me is hearing about the real-world consequences these hard-working American entrepreneurs face. I’ve spoken with owners who are actively considering closing their doors, firing their employees, and retreating to find a job with a large business like mine come January.

Just think about that devastation for a moment. The American Dream of ownership and entrepreneurship is being held hostage by healthcare costs. This isn’t about laziness or poor management. It is entirely about being unable to absorb the crippling financial risk that large corporations can.

The system is rigged to reward scale and punish the small. It rewards size and crushes ambition. This isn’t just a political crime against the American family. It’s an economic crime against the American spirit.

The current political regime, the one led by Donald J. Trump, continually prioritizes corporate greed over the needs of American entrepreneurs. The current system rewards the massive corporations, like the one that employs me. All the while, they suffocate the small businesses that actually create jobs and fuel innovation. Their rhetoric about supporting the “little guy” is meaningless when they simultaneously allow an immoral small business extortion tax to destroy their bottom line. The current regime only wants to help those who already have a massive safety net. For everyone else, it’s just political theater. Donald J. Trump cares about little else but his multi-million dollar ballroom, not the fate of a family business in Delaware.

The system demands that we remain docile employees of large entities, or we lose our chance at living a functional, healthy life.

A Call for Stability, Not Just Coverage

My body might give up after a few minutes of trying to climb the stairs or walk around the block, but my voice won’t. I secured my Protocol for myself, but the fight is bigger now. It’s about securing economic freedom for the entrepreneurs who deserve to thrive. That’s why I’ve started lending my voice to organizations like Patients For Affordable Drugs (P4AD). My personal win is now a political platform.

This entire episode—my savings, their ruin—is proof that we don’t have a functional healthcare market. We have a political instrument designed to maintain inequality, cheered on by a regime that only sees value in self-interest.

Look, the fact that my Protocol is covered is a spectacular personal victory! It’s a massive personal win that will give me the strength to walk my three rescue dogs without agonizing consequences. But that relief is cold comfort when I know my friends and clients might have to close up shop on January 1st.

We’ve got to fight for a system where the threat of crippling medical costs doesn’t instantly punish entrepreneurial ambition. It’s not just about my coverage. We have to demand economic stability for the entire nation—stability that’s actively being destroyed by the very people elected to protect us.
